Hire & Travel Information:
Hire period: Hire commences from the day of pick up to the day of drop off. Hire charges are based on a daily cost calculated from day of pick up as day one to drop off as the last day
Fuel: Vehicles are to be returned with a full fuel tank or at the level at the start of your hire, refuling charges at double the amount of the fuel cost will be will be charged to the Bond for vehicles returned with less than what was noted on the rental agreement at the start of the hire.
Diesel powered vehicles: Diesel tax is not charged at the pump in NZ, it’s charged by the kilometre and is purchased by the vehicle owner at a rate of 0.05 cents per kilometre ($5.00 per 100 ks) The kilometres travelled will will be charged to the hirer at the same rate (0.05 cents per kilometre) to recover costs.
Unlimited Travel: All of our daily rental rates are on an unlimited kilometer basis.
Camping Parks: There are more than 300 fully equipped camping parks spread around New Zealand. Booking is not normally necessary except during the peak holiday periods (December to January).
Road Rules: In New Zealand we drive on the left side of the road and give way to traffic from the right. Speed limits are strictly enforced: 50 kilometers per hour in urban areas and 100 kilometers per hour on the highways. Distances are measured in kilometers.
Driver’s License: A standard car license with a photo is all that is required to drive an RV in New Zealand. All drivers must present a current New Zealand, International, or acceptable overseas license written in English at commencement of hire, Hirers and drivers must be over 21 years of age.
Vehicle Insurance / Bond: Full vehicle and third party Insurance is compulsory - there is an excess (insurance bond) on all hires. The bond is usually held in the form of a credit card imprint. Please refer to the rates page for Bond amounts. For drivers 25 years or less the excess will be plus 25%
Bond Reduction Options: NOMAD offers daily insurance options where by the bond can be reduced to NZ$100. The daily insurance amount is calculated depending on the term of hire and in all cases reduces the bond amount significantly - please .
The insurance excess will be held in the form of a Bond. This can be paid in the form of a credit card imprint (Visa or Mastercard), Cash, Travelers cheques or a Bank transfer. It is fully refundable at the completion of hire provided that the vehicle is returned in a reasonably clean and tidy condition - all holding and waste tanks are empty - the vehicle has not been damaged or involved in an accident - Nomad does not incur costs as a result of your hire - the fuel tank is at the level it was at the start of your hire (usualy full) - All traffic infringements, speeding tickets etc. are the sole responsibility of the driver / hirer and may be deducted from the insurance bond if not resolved by the hirer. Any tickets received by Nomad resulting from your hire will incur a NZ$50.00 charge for administration costs.
Damage to a vehicle whilst on hire: Where possible a hirer can have a vehicle repaired whilst on hire, e.g. if a vehicle sustains damage to the fibreglass body then the hirer can find a reputible repair shop and have the work done during the hire period. The hirer is required to first contact Nomad and get authorization to have the work done. The work is to be paid for by the hirer or it will be charged to the bond. A detailed invoice is required for all work and is to be faxed, mailed, emailed or handed to a Nomad branch manager as soon as possible (Nomad fax 07829-3026) This arrangement for repairs is often cheaper for the hirer as they are able to get various quotes and often won’t have the same time constraints as Nomad will have when the vehicle is returned at the completion of hire at which time we will have no choice but to get the work done imediately and pay overtime rates etc. All work under taken must be of good quality and must leave the vehicle in the same condition or better than at the start of the hire.
Accidents & Damage; In the case of an accident where a vehicle is unable to continue the hire then Nomad can at their discretion cancel the hire and refund the balance, if the accident is deemed to be careless use and is a single vehicle accident then the balance of the hirers hire is non refunadble and the hire will be terminated, underbody and overhead damage will be charged to the hirers bond.
Windscreens: Windscreen breakage is not covered by the bond and will be deducted from the bond. Windscreens are covered under all the daily insurance options where the a daily amount has been paid to reduce the bond.
Liability: In the event of any unforeseen circumstances or breakdowns, Nomad Campervan Rentals can only be liable for the amount of your daily hire, if the breakdown is of a major nature Nomad will attempt to supply another vehicle, if Nomad is unable to supply a replacement of the same model etc then the hirer will be offered a substitue or a refund for the balance of their hire. If it is deemed that the breakdown was caused by neglegence by the hirer then it will be at the discretion of Nomad wether a replacement is supplied and the cost of repairs may be cahrged to the hirers Bond.
Deposit: A credit card number or a $300 deposit is required to secure a firm booking ->
Cancellation policy: Policy applies unless other arrangements are negotiated between NOMAD Car Rentals and Motorhome Rentals and the hirer. Fees in Percentage of Gross Rates if:
31 days before pick-up: No fee
30 days to 11 days before pick-up: 15%
10 days to 0 days and no show: 50%
If vehicle is returned early unless approved by management: No Refund
Payment: Hire payments can be made by Cash, Funds transfer to Nomads bank account, Visa, Mastercard or Travellers Cheques - Full payment is usually taken between one to two weeks before the start of your hire, Please advise if you would prefer some other arrangement. All hires must be paid in full before commencement of hire.
